The diocesan health office is directly under the diocesan secretariat with a functional link to KCCB health department. It is mandated to coordinate and provide technical support to Diocesan Health Institutions, Community Based Health Care programs, OVC, family life and HIV Programs within the Diocese. The office facilitates collaboration and representation to the Ministry of Health at the county level both in Trans-Nzoia and West Pokot now that Health is a devolved function, with the reason of ensuring an equitable distribution of resources at the local level and to network with other like mined local health stakeholders. The health office also plays a key role in advising the Local Ordinary on matters regarding Health and Bioethics. Besides, it has an advocacy role to spell out categorically the position of the Catholic Church in matters health among various stakeholders including government agencies particularly at the County and Sub County levels.
The action is specially to create strong networks Diocesan Health Units and Community Based Health Programs for effective referral of patients, joint deliberations, mutual exchange of ideas, collective learning and internal policy harmonization. Another key task of the health office is to undertake support supervision to the Diocesan health facilities/ Programs to ensure there is strong management team, provide technical Assistance and ensure Compliance with Catholic Social Teaching in health services delivery. This function is always coordinated with the facility boards/ committees, the diocesan health board and KCCB health board. The office also facilitates continuous professional and capacity development for health workers and ensures that all our health facilities are in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
