MASS FOR THE SOULS OF THE DEPARTED

On Monday, November 2 2026, the Catholic Church worldwide observes the Commemoration of All the Departed Faithful. In the Catholic Diocese of Kitale, Bishop Henry Juma Odonya presided over a special Holy Mass for the repose of the souls of all the departed at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. He was assisted by the Cathedral Administrator, Father James Njogu and the Diocesan Vocations Director, Father Samwel Marango.

In his homily, the Bishop reminded the faithful about the human journey of life, noting that everyone encounters various challenges and trials at times, some individuals pass away while still bearing spiritual imperfections. He emphasized the importance of praying for the souls of the departed who are in a state of purification, so that they, too, may attain the glory of God.

Reflecting on the Solemnity of All Saints, which was celebrated yesterday, the Bishop noted that the saints like all other human beings faced challenges and spiritual struggles, however, they overcame worldly temptations and were awarded the crown of heavenly glory. He encouraged the faithful to follow their example by living a holy life, so that they might also reach the Kingdom of God.

Furthermore, he urged the faithful to remember all the departed in their prayers especially those who are unknown, or who have no family or anyone else to pray for them. Essentially, the Catholic Church observes November 2nd each year as a day to pray for the faithful departed, while the entire month of November serves as a special period for remembering and praying for all the deceased.
